Over the last month there has been a huge spike in subscribers and followers of A Guide To Impractical Living Through The End Times and I am profoundly impressed and confused by this. I am also thankful that my soapbox is appreciated by so many of you.
Here’s the problem. I have been out of work since January 4, 2024 when the company I was with for four and a half years eliminated my position in the United States and transferred it to their India division. I was laid off. My unemployment ran out at the end of July, 2024. Since then I have relied on the kindness of my dear friends David and Jeri. Their financial support has kept me alive, allowing me to go innumerable doctors’ appointments and emergency room visits. Even a hospital stay.
My fibromyalgia isn’t severe enough (yet) for me to go to hospice care, so I shuffle along, dragging my feet and falling down running for the bus. But you can help.
An annual paid subscription to A Guide To Impractical Living Through The End Times is $50. If 22 subscribers upgrade (that’s 6% of my current subscribers) to paid subscribers I make the rent. If 11 of you all pay $100 I make the rent.
I don’t charge for my ramblings and musical attempts here. I probably never will. I’m not a capitalist. Art is for everyone to see and hear and experience, whether they like it or not! (LOL). But not being able to pay the rent is a serious crime in a capitalist society. It causes homelessness. As Bartleby, the Scrivener said repeatedly, “I would prefer not to.”
I have applied for Disablity Benefits from Social Security. As I’ve stated before, it’s quicker for Ukraine to get $60 billion and Israel to get $3 billion in military aid than it is for a disabled and ill American citizen to get $1,300 a month from the government. And I go through more hoops and investigations into my life than either of those nations. I have also applied for housing vouchers. That takes even longer than disability benefits. I haven’t heard shit from them since September.
I also had a couple of EEOC charges brought against potential employers from before my disabilities showed their full colors. One was transferred to the State’s EOC office in June. I’ve tried repeatedly to find out the status of my charge, but have received no response. But try to pass rent control laws and the Governor has his veto pen out before the vote is finished in the legislature. The other was dismissed by EEOC. The University of Reno would not negotiate a settlement back in September and the charge was dismissed by EEOC on December 31. I have 90 days to file a lawsuit in Federal District Court, but I can’t figure out the paperwork and there are NO lawyers that handle employment law for workers in my area. They’re all in Las Vegas and I’ve spoken to a few. One wanted a discounted price of $300 for a “consultation.” Another deliberated an passed on taking the case. I’ve asked a friend who is a civil rights lawyer to help me fill out the paperwork. I can handle myself in court, but I need to file soon. Fuck American justice!
So, if you can help me out financially I will be thankful. If you want to help me directly, DM me and I’ll provide you with my details.
Peace and love all around and remember Henry Miller’s words, “Always cheery and bright!” I’m sure he was being sarcastic.
